Discord community bot / private pilot

Backline

Keep your people together.

A Discord bot and dashboard for the person running the server: welcome and self-assigned roles, moderation with a case history, private tickets whose transcripts expire, feeds from Twitch, YouTube and RSS, and recovery snapshots. Twenty-three modules, each switched on per server. It is in a private pilot, and public installation is not open yet.

For the one person who runs the Discord server and has six bots open to do it.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Onboarding, moderation, tickets and feeds, switched on per server.

01

Welcome and roles

A welcome flow and self-assigned roles so new members sort themselves. Pick a welcome channel and the rest follows.

02

Moderation with a record

Every action has a case in the history. Delivery is checked against the server’s current permissions, never assumed.

03

Private tickets

Members open a ticket in a private channel. Transcripts expire on a schedule you set.

04

Feeds and recovery

Twitch, YouTube and RSS feeds post into the channels you choose. Recovery snapshots restore a server’s configuration selectively.

WHERE IT STANDS

A private pilot

  1. Running in two SUBCULT servers

Backline is a release candidate. All twenty-three modules are enabled in the pilot servers, where the dashboard, the bot and the feeds are being watched.

  2. Not open for installation

There is no public install link yet. The landing page at backline.subcult.tv explains the pilot; it does not add the bot to your server.

  3. Self-hosting later

The code is public under GPL-3.0 and runs from Docker Compose with PostgreSQL and Redis. A documented install for other operators is a separate step.

A FEW DETAILS

Common questions

When can I add it to my server?

Not yet. The pilot has to finish first. The newsletter is where that will be announced.

What permissions does it need?

Manage Server to install, then the permissions each module asks for. The dashboard describes a missing permission instead of failing quietly.

Does it play music?

There is an audio module. Radio, billing and pricing are outside what the pilot claims.

MADE IN THE OPEN

Backline is made by SUBCULT.

Patreon pays for the hours and the hosting. Paid members get private channels in our Discord and supporter posts, which show up when we have something to share. The monthly newsletter is free.
